The agentthat livesat home.

An open-source framework for a household assistant. It runs on your machine with the model you choose, answers in a message or aloud, and keeps watch for you. Every word it says is in a journal you can read.

LéaTell me as soon as the school writes back.

I’ll watch your mail and find you, wherever you are.

Ask once. It takes it from there.

One request, followed from the first word to the answer.

  1. 1

    You ask, once.

Aloud in the kitchen, or in a message. Nestor answers right away and sets up a watch: whose it is, where to look, what to look for, when to stop.

  2. 2

    It keeps watch.

The conversation ends; the watch carries on through nights, restarts and model changes. A small model reads each new mail once against every watch, and the agent only writes what deserves words.

  3. 3

It finds the right person, in the right place.

Home Assistant says where people are, as precisely as your home allows. Nestor decides who, where, how and when, and never cuts into a conversation. Move Léa and watch it decide.

    Where is Léa?

Says it aloud, on the office speaker.Writes to her phone.Keeps it for the morning: quiet hours.

  4. 4

    No answer? It writes.

If nobody reacts to what it said aloud, the message follows in writing shortly after, wherever Léa reads. She answers there, and the thread still knows what it is about.

  5. 5

And you can always see why.

Each step goes into the household’s journal with its reason. “Why did it speak to me?” always has an answer, in the admin.

Same agent, any body.

Nestor is the star at the centre: one agent, one memory. Every device you add becomes a satellite, in any room, and the same conversation carries on from one to the next.

Add a device to the house: Nestor pairs with it and the conversation carries on there.

  1. Kitchen speaker

Mathis Add flour and apples to the list.

Added. And no peanuts in the snack ideas, for Jules.

  2. Browser tab

Mathis Anything I should know before the weekend?

Jules’s outing is on Friday. It’s on the family calendar.

  3. Reachy Mini

    Jules Is the crumble ready?

Five more minutes. I’ll tell you here.

  4. ESP32 button

Mathis Turn everything off, we’re leaving.

Done. Lights and heating are off.

  5. An old phone

Jules Wake me up at seven.

    Seven it is. Sleep well.

  6. Raspberry Pi

    Léa Quiet hours, please.

Until seven. Nothing will wake the house.

  7. Wall tablet

Léa What’s left on the list?

Flour and apples. Mathis added them this morning.

Everyday things, said once.

What a household asks for, and what Nestor does with it.

  • Turn everything off, we’re leaving.

    The house

Lights, heating, music: through Home Assistant, and it checks it’s done.

  • Remind me to take my medicine at eight.

    Reminders that find you

Said in the room you’re in, sent to your phone if you’re out. It never wakes the house.

  • Jules is allergic to peanuts.

    A memory for each person

Kept and brought up when it matters. You can read, correct or erase it.

  • Plan our weekend in the mountains with the kids.

    Long errands, handed off

Another agent works on it while you talk. Nestor tells you when it’s ready.

  • What’s on today?

    The morning, in one sentence

Who has school, who has an appointment, what’s due: for each person.

  • Pasta in ten minutes, the oven in twenty-five.

    Hands busy

Timers by voice, in the right room, with no screen to touch.

It works with what you already have.

It’s yours, and it shows its work.

Everything it hears, does and says on its own goes into a journal you can read.

The journal, in Nestor’s admin.
On your own machine
The journal, memories and settings live in one file on your server. Open source, under the MIT licence.
Quiet when it should be
Quiet hours, “not now”, and never in the middle of a conversation.
Accounts in a vault
Passwords and tokens are encrypted. The model, the journal and the logs never see them.
It asks before it acts
Before it sends a mail or changes anything, it asks. It reads mail for information and takes no orders from it.
Everyone in their place
Roles and permissions for each person, channel and tool. A new device waits for your approval.
Recognition, if you want it
Voice and face profiles only for people who agree. Being recognised never unlocks anything on its own.

Bring it home.

Open source, running on your machine with your accounts. A computer is enough to start; add a microphone and a speaker to talk to it.

Early project, built in the open.
